The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)

  • The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) - CMS is the federal agency that administers the Medicare and Medicaid programs. From the CMS home page, you can access information regarding Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP, HIPAA, CLIA, and more.

  • Competitive Acquisition for DMEPOS - Competitive Bidding provides economic incentives for suppliers to provide quality items and services in an efficient manner and at a reasonable cost. The program changes the way that Medicare pays for these items under Part B of the Medicare program by utilizing bids submitted by DMEPOS suppliers to establish payment amounts. (CR5574 / JSM07364)

  • Competitive Acquisition for Part B Drugs & Biologicals - Section 303(d) of the Medicare Modernization Act requires the implementation of a competitive acquisition program (CAP) for Medicare Part B drugs and biologicals not paid on a cost or prospective payment system basis. Other DME Related Sites

  • Common Electronic Data Interchange (CEDI) - National Government Services (NGS) - CEDI provides a single electronic front end solution for all DME MAC suppliers. CEDI will work closely with DME MAC software vendors, billing services, clearinghouses, and trading partners (electronic submitters) on all electronic front end needs. Once implemented, all DME MAC electronic claims (ANSI and NCPDP) and 276 transactions will be collected by CEDI. CEDI will also return all DME MAC electronic front end reports, remittance advices and the 277 response transaction.

  • DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Implementation Contractor (CBIC) - Palmetto GBA - The CBIC conducts certain functions relating to the administration of the DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program. These functions include: preparing the request for bids (RFB), performing bid evaluations, and ensuring that suppliers meet all applicable financial and quality standards.

  • National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) - HIPAA mandated the adoption of standard unique identifiers for health care providers, as well as the adoption of standard unique identifiers for health plans. The purpose of these provisions is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the electronic transmission of health information. CMS has developed NPPES to assign these unique identifiers.

  • National Supplier Clearinghouse - Palmetto GBA - The National Supplier Clearinghouse is the entity that issues Medicare Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthesis, Orthotics and Supplies (DMEPOS) supplier authorization numbers nationwide for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

  • Program Safeguard Contractor (PSC) - TriCenturion - is the PSC for Jurisdiction A DME MAC.

  • Qualified Independent Contractor (QIC) - RiverTrust Solutions - As a QIC for CMS, RiverTrust will serve as an independent reviewer of appeals for Medicare claims issued by the Durable Medical Equipment Medicare Administrative Contractors(DME MACs).

  • Statistical Analysis Durable Medical Equipment Regional Carrier (SADMERC) - Palmetto GBA - The SADMERC's primary function is data analysis. The Reports and Analysis Unit compiles, analyzes and reports national Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics and Supplies (DMEPOS) claims history data. The SADMERC guides the DME MACs in focused medical review, and helps identify instances of potential Medicare fraud and abuse.
