NHIC is pleased to serve you as the Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) for Jurisdiction A effective July 1, 2006.

NHIC will provide its services for Medicare beneficiaries and Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics and Supplies (DMEPOS) in DME MAC Jurisdiction A which includes Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.

2009 DME MAC Jurisdiction A Symposiums - Unraveling the Mysteries of Medicare

The DME MAC Jurisdiction A Provider Outreach & Education Team is excited to announce that we will be hosting two Educational Symposiums offering a dynamic range of topics and speakers. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to interact directly with various Medicare Contractors and State DMEPOS Associations in order to enhance their educational experience and get the most out of this excellent opportunity.

Changes in Payment for Oxygen and Oxygen Equipment

As a result of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA), CMS has implemented new oxygen payment rules and supplier responsibilities in order to safeguard beneficiaries who rely on oxygen services.

Interactive CMS-1500 Form

The DME MAC A Outreach & Education Team has created an Interactive CMS-1500 Form. To use this form simply click on an item in the image of the CMS-1500 Form and you will be taken to information on how to properly complete that particular item.

Advance Beneficiary Notice of Noncoverage (ABN)

Effective March 1, 2009, providers (including independent laboratories), physicians, practitioners, and suppliers must use the revised ABN for all situations where Medicare payment is expected to be denied. The revised ABN has replaced the ABN-G (Form CMS-R-131G), ABN-L (Form CMS-R-131L), and NEMB (Form CMS-20007). As of March 1, 2009, the ABN-G and ABN-L are no longer valid.

DMEPOS Accreditation

All existing DMEPOS suppliers enrolled in the Medicare program are required to obtain and submit an approved accreditation to the NSC by September 30, 2009. The NSC shall revoke billing privileges if the DMEPOS supplier fails to obtain and submit supporting documentation of accreditation.
