Educational Programs NHIC Medicare Education and Outreach has long provided our customers the opportunity to learn about the Medicare program and changes that affect everyone through various educational programs, billing guides, newsletters, and our Web site. J14 MAC Part B Teleconference Assessment To provide the best customer service possible, we ask that you complete an assessment for the teleconference you attended. Your evaluation will be used in conjunction with other evaluations to determine in what areas our representatives are most helpful and where they need to strengthen their skills to better satisfy our customers’ needs. Educational Conferences Q & A Interested in Sponsoring a Seminar? General Billing Seminars, designed for those who have little or no experience with the Medicare program, focus on the Medicare basics and the proper completion of the CMS-1500 claim form. If you are new to the Medicare program or would like a refresher course, the General Billing Seminars may be just the thing. We will be happy to provide the Medicare seminar at your site, time and resources permitting. We recognize that there are many provider organizations in the community that have many billers on their staff that would benefit from this type of seminar. We also recognize that it is difficult for many staff members to be away from the office at the same time. If you would like a General Billing Seminar at your location, and you can gather a minimum of 20 or more attendees, please email Susan Kimball (susan.kimball@hp.com) with your request. For providers that require more advanced or specialty training, please complete the Education Request Form. Ask the Contractor Teleconference (ACT) Summary of Topic: Are you getting the important Medicare updates that you need to do your job? Do you need clarification on current CMS Change Requests? Attend our “Ask the Contractor” Teleconference (ACT) session to learn how to access CMS Change Requests. During this session you will be provided with the most recent Medicare updates. You will also have the opportunity to receive feedback and clarification on these updates and other current hot topics. All billing, medical, and compliance personnel, who oversee or file Medicare Part B claims, are encouraged to attend this teleconference. CERT- Comprehensive Error Rate Testing (CERT) program Summary of Topic:This teleconference will review the Comprehensive Error Rate Testing (CERT) program process and how the CERT program affects you as a Medicare provider. We will review the CERT goals, common errors, top error types and error rate categories. We will also review the top service types with highest improper payments for Medicare Part B providers. The importance of proper medical documentation and signature guidelines for medical review purposes will be a major focus for this teleconference. We encourage Medical Staff, Billing Managers and Compliance Staff for Medicare Part B providers to attend this teleconference. It will explain CMS coding requirements and how to assure you are in compliance with outpatient, emergency department and inpatient hospital services as well as nursing facility and home visits. Program Handouts: Influenza & Pneumococcal Billing Summary of Topic: The Influenza & Pneumococcal Billing and Reimbursement session will focus on the Medicare requirements for submitting these vaccine codes to NHIC, Corp and the Medicare allowable amounts that Part B providers will be paid. We will also review the roster billing requirements for the CMS 1500 claim form. This educational program will be conducted via our Virtual Room. Introduction to Medicare Part I Summary of Topic: This session is to introduce the novice biller to the Medicare program. We will discuss the role of Medicare Part A, B, C, and D and beneficiary eligibility and enrollment process. We will review physician participating status, claim submission, timely filing requirements, and Medicare secondary payer issues. Program Handouts: Mass Immunization Roster Billing & CMS-855B Application Summary of Topic: The Mass Immunization Roster Billing & CMS-855B Application session will focus on the completion of the 855B application process for Mass Immunizers and the necessary supporting documentation for the application. Program Handouts: Redeterminations Summary of Topic: A Redetermination is the first level of appeal. It applies after an initial determination has been made on a claim. This is a second review of the claim and any supporting documentation when the claimant is not satisfied with the initial payment decision. This session will review hands on the redetermination form, sample redetermination requests, and the process and requirements for a written redetermination. Program Handouts: Reopenings Summary of Topic: Reopenings are requested to correct a claim as a result of a billing error, contractor error, or a change in a fee schedule which is retroactive to an earlier part of the year. Reopenings may be requested within one year of the initial claim decision. This session will review hands on the reopening form and the process and requirements for a telephone or written reopening. Program Handouts: Surgery Summary of Topic: This session will review the concept of global surgery and “never events”. We will familiarize you with the National Correct Coding Initiative edits and appropriate modifiers for proper claim submission. Virtual Room For 2010 J14 A/B MAC Educational Programs!
