Sections 1816 (a) and 1842 (a)(3) of the Social Security Act (the Act) require that contractors serve as a channel of communication for information to and from providers/suppliers.  The fundamental goal of NHIC is to give those who provide service to beneficiaries the information they need to understand the Medicare program so that, in the end, they manage Medicare related matters appropriately and bill correctly.

The scope of our communication activity is to identify and address issues that are of concern to the broad provider/supplier audience. Our efforts are directed at educating provider/supplier and their staffs about fundamental Medicare programs and policies, new Medicare initiatives, and significant changes to the Medicare program.  These efforts are aimed at reducing the number of provider/supplier inquiries and claim submission errors.

The primary function of the Provider Outreach & Education Advisory Group (POE AG) is to assist in the creation, implementation and review of provider/supplier education strategies and efforts.  The POE AG provides input and feedback on training topics, provider/supplier education materials, and dates and locations of provider/supplier education workshops and events.  The group also identifies salient provider/supplier/education issues, and recommends effective means of information dissemination to all appropriate providers and suppliers and their staff.  The POE AG is used as a provider/supplier education consultant resource.

The POE AG includes representatives of various provider/supplier specialties, including state and local trade and professional associations, practicing provider/supplier or staff members, and representatives of billing organizations.  Members reside within all areas of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Meetings are held by teleconference, with meeting space available at the NHIC site in each state for those who want to personally attend.

If you are interested in becoming a member of our Provider Outreach & Education Advisory Group, please send an e-mail to POE AG Coordinator.
